"Ito"(Hucho perryi) is a large species of salmonid freshwater fish in Hokkaido Japan.
It also known as the Sakhalin taimen or Japanese huchen.
It find in only a few rivers and lakes, because of population decrease.
The main reason for this decline was habitat destruction or modification.
This fish will be very large.
80inches fish was caught in the past.
But now we can catch 50inches fish at a maximum.
Average size is 27inches.
9wt single hand rod to 10wt two hand rod are used depending on the situation.
Zonker fly and Woolly Bugger are effective.
The best times for fly fishing is from May to November.
If you want to try Ito fishing from overseas, I recommend that you try in the lake first
because rivers are crowded with local anglers and it is hard to catch the fish.
Some local anglers couldn't catch Ito for many years.
In the lake, You can enjoy fishing and long-stay in the great nature and You can catch easier than fishing in the rivers.
Please contact me if you have any questions about Ito fishing in Hokkaido.
I am ready to introduce a lodge and guide service.
